The Scoop & Student Corner
Jason and I and our Pro-Am students, Marilyn Hall, Susan Gertz, Becca Hagy and Pam Recklehoff had a great time at Motown Dance Championships in Detroit, MI. It was very exciting for first time Pro-Am competitors Susan, Beca and Pam, who did an excellent job! We are extremely proud of all of our students who came out and competed!!! The event took place in a newly renovated hotel that offered all of their guests a warm, oowey, gooey cookie (or two or three or a dozen if you know how to ask for them like our friend Jill DeMarco did for me). Thanks Jill! You're the BEST . . . and you too Luva! Click here to view a video montage of our Pro-Ams.

The Scoop & Student Corner II
Our Pro-Am students, Becca, Pam and Marilyn continued to do very well at The Indy Swing Classic. Jason's newest student,Tobi Oberman competed with Jason for the first time and she did an amazing job! It was nice to see about 20 dancers from Cincinnati out there dancing and having a great time. The best part of this event was definitely the social dancing. I was elated to see all of the Pros out social dancing with everyone late-late night. Jason and I got lots of comments about how accessible the Pros were all weekend. Kudos to all of the Pros! The second best part was the midnight buffet. The eggs, bacon, sausage and potatoes were yummy. What made it even better was the abundance of fruits, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal and six different pastries, OOH SO GOOD! Here are some of the competition results.

Did You Know?
Did you know that Jason and I got to go visit my hometown a few weeks ago? Dave Moldover from Dance Jam Productions, Inc invited us to teach in Maryland, home of the Maryland blue crabs. I love them steamed with Old Bay Seasoning. I was so looking forward to getting down and dirty with the crabs over the weekend. We were happy to see dancing friend, Melissa Green picking us up from BWI airport. On the way to Dave's house in Derwood, near my old home in Olney, we saw the ever changing place I used to call home. We passed Sherwood High School, home of the Warriors, who I used to cheer for. It brought back memories of Cheerleading, Volleyball and Rock-N-Roll Revival (annual student sing & dance concert (I was the dancer)). Jason had to teach early so Mel and I went to dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant where she had Pho noodle soup for the first time; I think she liked it. We passed a crab shack, but decided to wait and do that another time with Jason.
We taught at the Cherry Hill Park in College Park Friday night. This was the same place where I used to take lessons from Dean and Dawn Garrish when I first started dancing in 1997. Dawn was my first teacher who taught me how to WCS. Fun memories!
Mel, Jason and I got to spend time with good friends, Dallas & Whitney Brooks and new friend Don Herron (Whitney's new classic partner) Saturday. We met up for a great lunch at a Chinese Restaurant in Wheaton Mall (no MD blue crabs). Wheaton Mall used to be my favorite hang out during my teenage years. It wasn't the same though, I didn't see any cute boys there-LOL.
Dallas picked us up Sunday afternoon and headed for an "all you can eat" Mongolian BBQ in Bethesda. You know how much I love "all you can eat" and of course I always try to get my money's worth. The three of us did a lot of damage, but no MD blue crabs again. After brunch, Dallas took us to the Air and Space Museum in Dulles, VA where they house the evolution of our aviation history. It was also the current home of the Enola Gay. This was special for us because we had just listened to an audio book "Flags of Our Fathers" which was about WWII and the Battle for Iwo Jima in the Pacific Theater. The capture of Iwo Jima helped the Enola Gay to successfully bomb Japan and bring an early end to the war against Japan. It was amazing to see a part of that history.
Okay, Monday was the day we were going to have MD blue crabs. After may lessons that afternoon, we headed to the crab shack that Mel and I had seen on Friday. Well, . . . the place was closed and we didn't have time to find another one. We ended up at a Chinese restaurant across the street instead. It was good, but it wasn't MD blue crabs. Oh well, guess I'll try it again when we're there for Easterns Dance Challenge in a few weeks.
